A hassle-free move
Owning her own home was nothing new for Angela Geldard. So when her relationship ended with her other half, the mum-of-two moved around the corner into a Sovereign part-buy home. “I heard about it through work,” explains the blood transfusion nurse from a village near Reading. “So I rang and put myself on the list.” With a typical family home in Burghfield costing around £230,000, Angela bought a 40% share of a three-bedroom Westbury-built home in Burghfield Common, paying rent on the rest. “I went to the offices and we went through the finances, which was fairly straightforward.” The small, family-friendly development is just a stone’s throw from local schools, and the mortgage was arranged through Leeds & Holbeck Building Society. Sovereign spokesman Gary Bremner adds: “Anyone who can prove they can’t afford a house can get on the list for shared ownership, so it’s not just for first time buyers. Increasingly, we’re helping people settle somewhere new after a break-up.” Published 20 June 2006 |
