Resident Challenge Day hailed a success
Residents from Sovereign, Twynham and Vale Housing Associations were recently given the chance to question and influence Sovereign Housing Group at a Challenge Day held recently. Thirty two residents from the three housing associations attended the day, which allowed them to contribute to the group’s strategic business planning, influence service delivery and ask questions they might have about the group’s response to national policy agenda and media coverage of housing issues. Vale Housing Association managing director Steve Russell was a panel member at the Challenge Day. He said the event, the first of its kind held by Sovereign Housing Group, was useful to the group and residents alike “It was a great opportunity for the leaders of the various parts of the organisation to be held directly accountable for the services they deliver,” he said. “For our residents it was equally an opportunity to compare notes about the way Sovereign is going forward and I’m sure this will become a regular event in the calendar. The challenge ahead (for Sovereign Housing Group) is to ensure the promises we gave are now delivered.” Ann, a Sovereign Housing Association resident from Newbury, said the Challenge day had provided residents with a good opportunity to come face to face with the group’s chief officers. “The questions that were posed were constructive and the answers to our questions were constructive and helpful,” she said. “It was also good to see so many disabled people there – that was heartening because their issues are very different from those of able people.” Published 28 May 2008 |
