Wardens hit ground running in Thatcham
The partnership that put two new neighbourhood wardens on the streets of Thatcham gathered this week to celebrate some early successes in making the north of the town safer. Naomi Mildenhall and Allan McIntyre have been getting to grips with low level crime and neighbourhood grime being hired by Sovereign Housing Association late last year. For example, the team has been arranging for abandoned cars to be towed away, drug needles to be cleared up, and liaising with local families about estate issues in Mount Road area. Sovereign Neighbourhood warden manager Andy Cooch said: “This is the fourth area of West Berkshire now warden-patrolled, and already the results are starting to improve the quality of life in north Thatcham.” West Berkshire Councillor for Community Safety Emma Webster said: “West Berkshire Council are pleased to have been able to financially support the introduction of the Thatcham wardens. We have seen across the district the difference that is made by the presence of wardens on the streets and early successes have already been made in Thatcham for the benefit of the local residents." Thatcham Town Council ‘s Town Mayor Cllr. Alexander Payton added: “We are pleased to be involved in financially supporting this project and we are delighted with the success the Wardens have already made in improving the environment for Thatcham residents. We hope to see a third Warden in the future.” Naomi was formerly one of the Greenham wardens, and has now been promoted to coordinate work on the ground with other agencies, like police and youth workers.Published 13 March 2007 |
