Spooky fun for Christchurch estate

Up to 150 people had a spookily good time at a Halloween and Bonfire Night fun-day in Christchurch – including some who came from Bournemouth for the event!

Twynham Housing Association and its residents’ association arranged the day, inviting all its residents as well as everyone else living on the Somerford estate, where the event was held.

Ann Brown, Twynham’s Resident Involvement Officer, explains:

“We and our residents’ association are keen to bring the community together and be involved with local issues, so what better excuse than Halloween and Bonfire Night? It was a fantastic day and we’re pleased so many of our own tenants and other residents came along.

“There were plenty of people in fancy dress and lots of children’s activities like face painting, apple bobbing and eating doughnuts from a string. We had a pumpkin carving competition and grand raffle, as well as hot dogs and toffee apples to eat.

“Another reason for the day was to remind people of the dangers of bonfires and fireworks, so firefighters from Christchurch brought along their fire engine and gave advice. The police also gave general safety advice and reminded youngsters how to consider others when they go trick or treating.”

Louise, who decided to come along from here home in Townsend, Bournemouth “It’s great for the children, the people are really friendly and there’s lots of really useful information for the adults. It was well worth the drive from Townsend!”
