Witney shared owners
Kath, Mike & baby Poppyspacer When the imminent arrival of baby girl Poppy had prompted Mike and Kath How to look for a bigger place, they knew from experience that shared ownership was their best option.

With a typical terrace in Witney costing £190,000, the couple had been searching for a three-bedroom home on a part-buy, part-rent basis for a year, when the call came from West Oxfordshire District Council that Sovereign had some available on the new Madley Park estate on the edge of town.

Youth worker Mike explains: “We are both on decent wages, but there’s nothing around here we can own outright, so this is the next best thing. We had already been in a shared owner property but it only had two bedrooms.”

They bought a 40% share of their £190,000 home, and moved in to one of 41 shared ownership houses on the new Madley Park estate two months ago, overlooking the brook, and hardly had time to unpack before little Poppy was born last month.
