Partners welcome new residents to
Marnel Park

Residents living in the first phase of affordable homes at Popley Fields will have the chance to meet the partners behind the successful development this week.

The recent completion of 226 homes at Marnel Park, built by David Wilson Homes, includes 50 for rent and part-buy part-rent, which the people who made it happen will visit on Friday, to make sure the residents are settling in well.

Marnel Park is a 750 home development by David Wilson Homes, due to complete in 2009. The affordable homes are split between Sovereign and Thames Valley Housing Associations.

Sovereign Assistant Director of Development Mark Allnutt said: “This is our 11 th development with David Wilson Homes, and we’re delighted to be involved in Marnel Park, which will go a long way to achieving Basingstoke’s goal of building 250 new affordable homes every year.”

The latest £5m investment in affordable housing in the borough provides 25 homes and apartments for rent, and 25 for part-buy part-rent, and all now fully occupied.

Keith Holloway, Thames Valley Housing Chief Executive, added: ‘’I am delighted that we are working on our first development in partnership with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, David Wilson Homes and Sovereign, to provide affordable homes that respond to a range of housing needs within the local community.’’

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council cabinet member for housing and regeneration, Cllr Cecelia Morrison said: “Affordable housing is much needed in this area and I am pleased that the development at Marnel Park is progressing well.

"I look forward to meeting some of the residents who have already moved into their new homes and finding out how they're getting on."
