Village homes for locals get underway
Local people in Watlington will soon be able to move into much needed affordable housing thanks to a rural housing initiative and funding from the Housing Corporation. The Oxfordshire Rural Housing Partnership (ORHP) – a consortium of Oxfordshire district councils and social landlords, recognised the need for housing in this area and have worked closely to make sure the scheme fits in well with the existing community. Leadbitter Construction began work this week on farm land sold to ORHP partner Sovereign Housing Association. The homes should be ready by next winter, for people with a local connection to the area and will include 12 properties for rent and 6 for part-buy part-rent. Sovereign Development Manager Tracey Spencer said, “We are delighted to be able to offer people with local connections the chance to live where they were brought up.” Published 16 February 2007
