Henley teacher helped to own her own home
Trisha Corlessspacer Trisha Corless, a teacher in Henley-on-Thames, needed to find her own place after splitting with her partner. But with soaring prices, it was only when she applied for a Key Worker Living loan, that she discovered there was hope.

“I found out about the scheme on the internet,” says Trisha. “A policeman I know who had bought a house through Key Worker Living also suggested I should apply.”

Having previously owned a home, Trisha wasn’t convinced she would qualify for the interest-free top-up loan, but she decided to find out more.

“I phoned and was told to write in explaining my situation. I completed the application form and was delighted when, a few weeks later, I was accepted onto the scheme.”

Trisha qualified for an equity loan of £38,000 to put towards the purchase of a home on the open market, with Sovereign Housing Group helping her through the process.

“With the little bit of capital I had got from my previous house, and the money from Key Worker Living I was able to buy a two-bedroom terrace in Twyford, which is about 8 miles from where I work.”

Trisha would ideally have liked a home in Henley, but even with help from Key Worker Living this was out of the question.

“I wanted to stay in the area, close to where I work, but prices in Henley are crazy. I’m happy with my home in Twyford though, where prices are a bit more sensible. Without Key Worker Living, I could never have afforded a house like the one I got.”
