New director shows commercial edge
Phil Stephens, Group Development DirectorspacerSovereign Housing Group has appointed Phil Stephens to spearhead one of the largest affordable housing programmes in the Thames Valley and South West.

In June, Phil, 49, was promoted to Group Development Director and now heads up a staff team of 65 delivering a £52m development and asset management programme.

After 25 years in the private sector, Phil joined Sovereign in 2003, and has extensive contacts throughout the area. Starting out as a quantity surveyor in 1974, he worked for Maxim Homes, and was a director of Wilmott Dixon Housing.

“With 800 homes a year to deliver, there’s always plenty going at Sovereign. As an industry, we should all be reacting quicker to improve the current very low build-rates, I have a number of ideas to help us achieve that, and will continue to nurture our deep industry links with developers. I am excited by the potential that this new role offers.”

Phil, formerly Head of New Business at Sovereign. will oversee an ambitious £50m replacement housing initiative in Berkshire, a 400-home a year shared ownership programme, and development projects in Dorset for Twynham Housing Association, which joined Sovereign Housing Group last year.

He will also be overseeing delivery of more than 1500 grant-aided affordable homes through the Sovereign Development Consortium
