Landlords work smarter with Cornish home swap
Around 100 Cornish housing tenants have swapped landlords today in a bid to deliver better services locally. Households in Restormel, Caradon, North Cornwall and Penwith agreed to move from Sovereign Housing Group to Devon & Cornwall Housing Group after extensive consultation. Progressive landlords across the country are consolidating housing provision as part of a drive to deliver better and more efficient services, and with 16 landlords operating in Cornwall, Sovereign and Devon & Cornwall have set the pace. Sovereign Housing initiated the move, and managing director Paul Crawford explained: “We provide homes in more than 50 districts across the south and south west, and it’s important that each resident has easy access to extra help and support. “Our Cornish tenants have been served well from our Plymouth office, but when we asked them, a third said they wanted closer contact with housing staff. As we’re not building in Cornwall at present and transferring our tenants to another high performing association like Devon & Cornwall makes sense for us and paves the way for our tenants to access better services.” Graham Sherburn, Director of Housing and Support for Devon and Cornwall Housing added: “We have worked on other initiatives with Sovereign Housing and are very pleased they chose us to transfer their homes to. We have dedicated housing teams based in Liskeard and I am very confident that we can continue to provide the high levels of service given to residents by Sovereign and hopefully extend them.” The transfer came into effect from March 31 2006, and includes a complex for older people in St Austell, as well as family homes in rural areas. Two Sovereign staff will also transfer to Devon & Cornwall as part of the agreement.
