Sovereign supports successful Carnival

Sovereign Housing Association has joined the local organisations supporting this year’s Newbury Carnival. Spokesman for the Bartholomew Street-based social landlord, Steve Murphy, said: “We’re always keen to help boost community spirit, so it’s a great pleasure to support the carnival again especially in our home town.

“We’re already encouraging resident groups on the edge of Newbury to enter a float, and staff are keeping their fingers crossed for some fine weather on the day.”

Bryan Harper, Carnival Chairman, welcomed Sovereign’s enthusiastic support. He said: “Newbury Carnival wouldn’t happen without the assistance of a great many individuals and organisations in our local community, and we are especially grateful for the financial help we have received this year from Sovereign Housing Association and from The Greenham Common Trust, Newbury Building Society and Newbury Town Council.”

Newbury Carnival will take place on Sunday 1 July. The main parade through the town centre starts at 2pm. The parade is free to enter and cash prizes are available. This will be preceded by the charity youth Fun Run in Victoria Park and music from Beenham Band at the bandstand from 12.00-2pm, with live music, displays and street entertainment in the park after the parade finishes. There will be a funfair on The Wharf throughout the day.
