Young and old celebrate Christmas in Calcot

Calcot’s neighbourhood wardens are bringing old and young together for a festive afternoon of carol singing next week.

Elderly people in the area will be treated to an afternoon of Christmas carols by pupils of Calcot Primary School. The afternoon also features a raffle for the elderly featuring prizes donated from local companies.

The event wraps up a packed year for the wardens – employed by Sovereign Housing Association – and warden Susie McIntyre said: “We all work closely with the elderly and wanted to do something special for them. I thought this would be a great idea to bring the whole community together at Christmas.”

As well as patrolling the area to reassure residents and report low level crime, vandalism and tackle nuisance behaviour, an important part of the wardens’ work involves organising community events.

Elderly residents from local sheltered housing schemes have been invited, along with Age Concern, for the event on Monday 18 December 2006, 1.30-4pm.
