Busy year in Bristol for major landlord
Building in Bristol

More building work is underway across Bristol to cope with high demand from residents wanting to sign up with one of the city’s best-run housing associations.

Around 260 people in and around Bristol were handed the keys to new rented, part-buy, and open market homes through Sovereign Housing Association, a new report said this week.

Soaring property prices have fuelled a boom in shared ownership homes – where the resident buys a 40% stake and pays rent on the rest – with 117 completed by Sovereign in the year to March.

Sovereign Managing Director Paul Crawford says: “In the past year, we’ve started regenerating areas like Barton Hill, and provided top-up loans to keep frontline workers like teachers and nurses in the city. We’ve also provided solar-powered homes in the surrounding villages, and will soon be providing affordable accommodation in areas like Harbourside and Temple Quay.”

By using resident feedback to improve our services, satisfaction ratings have gone up to 89%, and Sovereign is now rated by the Audit Commission one of the best-run housing associations in the country.

Aside from repairs, the charitable organisation handed the keys over on 100 new rented homes in and around Bristol, as part of a £45m building programme for affordable homes.

Over the year, Sovereign received 500 compliments and 378 complaints. Antisocial behaviour on some estates remains a hot topic, and seven residents were evicted for nuisance behaviour. Copies of Sovereign’s annual report will be posted to all its residents during October and can also be downloaded from the Annual reports and accounts page.
