Sovereign backs Government community awards
One of the south’s biggest landlords has joined the search for the best examples of community projects that have made people feel more positive about an area.

Sovereign Housing Group is sponsoring one of seven industry awards from the Government’s Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC), which will be handed out in June.

The Creating the Future awards scheme started last year in a drive to identify success stories from local groups, individuals and projects across the country. Sovereign is sponsoring the Vision for Place category, which recognises those who’ve worked together to transform the perception of a neighbourhood or area.

Sovereign Group Chief Executive Ann Santry said: “We’re playing our part in a lot of local projects, from funding credit unions, building new amenities such as shops, and running local labour schemes in inner-city areas.”

“In our view, winning awards isn’t about collecting trophies, but sharing the best ideas the sector has to offer with others in similar situations, so we’re delighted to be able to support ASC in their search for the pick of the projects.”

The Creating the Future Awards 2008 are now open for entries, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, on June 5.
