The Quadrangle
New resident in Westerleigh

The Quadrangle is a 'brown field' development on land that previously comprised 4 pre cast reinforced concrete properties owned and managed by South Gloucestershire Council.

Sovereign Housing and Halsall Construction limited developed 5 new build properties, in a 'green' scheme that included the following additional modern methods of construction features:

  • Timber Frame Construction
  • Recycled Newspaper Insulation
  • Dry Solar Panels / Sun warm passive ventilation system, - a system which has solar panels which are used to heat hot water and also a passive ventilation system which provides a constant feed of filtered air. This has been fitted in 3 of the 5 properties
  • Internal and External recycling stores
  • Downstairs shower rooms
  • Home offices (excluding the 2 bedroom property)
  • Sun pipes in the 4 bed properties
  • Pre installed energy efficient light bulbs

The scheme allowed for 'Egan Compliance' within supply chain management and partnering arrangements. Although the small-scale nature of this scheme does not give a true enough representation of the benefits of using modern methods and 'green' design aspects benefits are evident in terms of energy efficiency of the scheme.

This has proved very popular with the residents, who were closely involved with the design. Measures are in place to monitor the performance of these units over a one-year period.
